I'm not entirely sure I would be able to wrap my brain around any engineering textbooks. I'm afraid I'll have to leave those to you and Cid.

I had been hoping to see if you did have any favourites. Novels or stories or otherwise. I'm looking for a new book to read.

You read just about anything, right? What about something with a lot of adventure! We live in a place with a lot of water now, so I bet there's a ton of books about swashbucking tales! Not that we aren't already living that, but! It could be fun to read one with lots of fantasy and adventure! Something to get your blood pumping!

You'll be happy to know that I've dived into plenty of adventure novels since our arrival here.

But what of you, Mid? What sort of swashbucking tales do you enjoy? Something with daring heroines?

Probably! I'm sure there'd be something like that for me, where a heroine goes to save the hero instead. I'd read that, actually. Let the princess save the prince instead!

[...couldn't that just be kind of their real life though?? Jill could save Clive's ass, easily, but reading it... that could be fun!]

Perhaps the next time any of us are in danger you'll come to our daring rescue?

You know it! Hammer in one hand, wrench in another! Kind of sad I missed giving Ultima whatfor, but I know you all gave him some knockarounds like he deserved, the bloody arsehole. But if he comes around again... he gets a hammer in the face.

[Or, well, anything that may endanger her loved ones, really. She's a healerengineer, but...]

Do not worry, Mid. We hit him enough to honour you in name, as well.

[He knows Cid wouldn't have wanted her to be there, anyway. But it's the thought that counts.]

I bet! If I can learn how to fight, maybe next time I can do more than just be a cheerleader. But my hammer aim IS pretty good, if I do say so meself. Good enough to knock someone round the head with one throw!

...but now I want to find a book that matches that. A normal girl, nothing special about her, saving her friends. Maybe I'd learn a thing or three.

Then perhaps a few lessons in close combat might do you well? Only a suggestion.

A novel like that does sound like a perfect basis for a story. I'll see what I can find for you. I'd like to read something like that as well.

Really? I'd like to learn, if you can teach me! I learn pretty quickly.

[As if he didn't already know that.]

If you find some, you definitely have to let me know. It'll be more fun than just engineering books for days, something different for once.

Well, I'm not entirely sure I would be the best one to teach you, Mid. I know how to use a sword but I hardly know how to teach something like combat.

We would find you someone more suited, of course.

[He isn't Clive, unfortunately. He can hold his own in a battle but he's much more of a mage. Just... Red Mage things.]

I already know not to hold the pointy end, so you wouldn't have to do that much. But I'd like to learn, be a little less useless when you're all out fighting things.

You are far from useless, Midadol. Without you, we wouldn't have been able to make half the journeys that we did, safely. We would have been pieces of wood afloat in a storm-drunk sea.

I understand the desire, though. You can start with me, I'll try my utmost best to teach you what I know, then.
